An Inspiration, for Solving the Problem of Superstructure, Divergent Roots- Juniper Publishers

JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY & ORAL HEALTH Abstract The third molar is the last tooth to erupt in the oral cavity and it is also the most retained/impacted tooth of the jaws. Even though this tooth can remain asymptomatic causing no problems whatsoever to the patient, a series of disorders can be directly related with its presence. Throughout Dentistry history there have always been some doubts concerning the real need for asymptomatic impacted third molar removal and the best time to do it if indicated. This present article, Part I, has the objective to review the literature on the topic. A future to be published article, Part II, will discuss the still controversial issue and propose a conclusion. There is unanimity among oral and maxillofacial surgeons for impacted third molars removal when involved with pathological conditions. The concept of prophylactic extraction of third molars when the indications are not obvious, surgical extr

Papillary Cyst Adenocarcinoma Arising in a Papillary Cyst Adenoma: A Rare Entity in the Sublingual Gland- Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY & ORAL HEALTH Abstract Papillary cyst adenocarcinoma (PCAC) of salivary glands is an extremely rare, low-grade destructive tumor, with a papillary - cystic architecture. PCAC has considerable overlap in microscopic characteristics with the benign variant of papillary cyst adenoma (PCA), where the main difference between the two is the presence of frank invasion into surrounding tissues in PCAC. The present case describes a long -standing lesion multilobulated submucosal mass of 4 cm diameter of the floor of the mouth in a 78 years old female. Histologic analysis reviled infiltrative pattern suggesting malignant pattern. The history of a long duration with a recent increase in size, the encapsulation of most of the tumor periphery and the localized front of invasion, all suggest transformation from PCA to PCAC fiture of PCA. Conclusion:n: With the results it is concluded that preoperative plasma BNP levels is a

Evidence Based Practice- Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY & ORAL HEALTH Editorial Evidence based practice is a new term which recently echoes in the field of health sciences. As quoted “EBP is the integration of clinical expertise, patient values, and the best research evidence into the decision making process for patient care. Clinical expertise refers to the clinician’s cumulated experience, education and clinical skills. The patient brings to the encounter his or her own personal preferences and unique concerns, expectations, and values. The best research evidence is usually found in clinically relevant research that has been conducted using sound methodology [1] With the technological revolution, millions of results are at our fingertip through the internet. Whenever we need information or supporting evidence, majority of the health practitioners rely on internet sources. While the results are abundant in number, it is a practitioner’s discretion to analyse

Bone Graft Case- Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY & ORAL HEALTH Periodontology Bone Graft, ridge preservation, socket preservation, bone grafting and alveolar ridge preservation are several different terms used in dentistry for bone grafting. The purpose of this procedure is to preserve and prevent bone shrinkage after an extraction. Wang and Lang reported in 2012 that “Applying the guided bone regeneration principle using bone substitutes together with a collagen membrane has shown clear effects on preserving alveolar ridge height as well as ridge width”. Back in 2012, Dr. Gordan J Christensen stated that “socket grafting is not yet ‘standard of care,’ but in my opinion it certainly should be” There are various types of bone materials - autograft which are from the patient’s own body, xenograft which is from a different species, allograft which is from a human cadaver and alloplast which is a synthetic material. I have only used allograft as this was wh

The 3 Pillars of Orthodontic Passive Self-ligation- Juniper Publishers

Image
JUNIPER PUBLISHERS-OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL OF DENTISTRY & ORAL HEALTH Abstract The concept and technique of Self-ligation has been a hotly debated topic in Orthodontics in recent years. The claimed advantages of much-reduced or near-zero friction and the resulting light forces that can lead to more efficient tooth movement are currently being regularly researched and investigated, and although many of the proposed effects are not being entirely and consistently corroborated by clear scientific evidence to date, this treatment modality is certainly a very tempting proposition to any orthodontist. Keywords: Self ligation; Malocclusion; Musculature; Orthodontic Introduction I’ve tried out various types of self-ligating brackets throughout my career as a specialist. I started out slowly and gradually, trying out different types of SL systems as I went along, however, I had not tried using the r
