Psidium cattleianum (Myrtaceae) as a Natural Antimicrobial Source Against Oral Bacteria- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers- Open Access Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health Psidium cattleianum (Myrtaceae) as a Natural Antimicrobial Source Against Oral Bacteria- Juniper Publishers Authored by  Marcelle Marie Buso-Ramos Abstract Psidium cattleianum or strawberry guava is a common tropical plant in Brazil belonging to Myrtaceae family. However, this plant is an underexploited source of medicinal compounds, evidenced by photochemical investigations that describe, in recent reports, its antioxidant, anti-proliferative and antimicrobial actions. In this mini review, the antimicrobial prospect of the extract and the essential oil from P. cattleianum leaves against oral bacteria will be discussed. It is believed that, this review will serve as a useful reference and encourage future research about antimicrobial potential of this plant against oral microorganisms. Keywords: Psidium cattleianum;...

Extracted Tooth: Can it be A Bone Graft Substitute- Juniper Publishers

Juniper Publishers- Open Access Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health   Extracted Tooth: Can it be A Bone Graft Substitute- Juniper Publishers Authored by In Woong Um Abstract This article introduces the use of Demineralized Dentin Matrix (DDM) scaffold, which are fabricated from the patient’s own extracted tooth to repair the alveolar bone defect under the view point of clinical implant dentistry. DDM is natural collagen based scaffold with similar organic and inorganic component of autogenous bone. The possibilities of DDM as bone graft substitute are compared to well known demineralized bone matrix (DBM) which has a little limitations. Based on in vitro and in vivo studies on DDM, clinical applications of DDM as three dimensional scaffolds for alveolar bone regeneration have shown predictability as well as possibilities of future advancement to the carrier of growth factors and stem cells. ...

Identification of Mercury Levels on the Operator’s FaceMask During the Removal Of Dental Amalgamas: Pilot Study- Juniper Publishers

Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health      Abstract Several cases of mercury poisoning and embryotoxicity among dental personnel have been documented. The exposure level of mercury vapor upon removal of an amalgam restoration, without water irrigation and without ventilation is 0.19 mg/m3. Dentists exposed to 16.7μg/m3 of mercury in the air showed deficiencies in logic and vision. Facemasks have been used to reduce workers’ exposure to infectious and toxic aerosol material. Immediate Loading of an Atrophied Maxilla Using the Principles of Cortically Fixed Titanium Hybrid Plates- Juniper Publishers

Image
Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Dentistry & Oral Health Abstract Replacing the dental arch evolved fixed prosthesis and later dental implants. Dental implants have intended to cover missing teeth in the maxilla and mandible. However, many areas have insufficient bone, and this is critical to success and prognosis. Therefore, this report case discusses an approach of implant treatment undertaken in a patient with pronounced maxillary atrophy using Pterygoid implants, biomaterialsand a new model approach: the titanium Hybrid -Plates. Keywords:  Hybrid -Plates, Jaw atrophy, Tubero-pterygoid implants, Matri™bone. Go to Introduction The term osseointegration proposed by Branemark1 has developed an endosseous implant that forms an immobile connection with bone and has revolutionized oral rehabilitation with a significant advance in restorative dentistry [1]. Despite these success rates, some limitations have often found in sites implanted [1,2].The need for a dental ...
