Materials containing resin, which are used in restorative dentistry, have the potential to create local or systemic reactions on tissues such as the pulp, gingiva and oral mucosa. When adhesive resins are applied directly on the pulp, infection or necrosis generally occurs. This is because the organic matrix of the adhesives contains components which may have a cytotoxic effect.
