However, SDF causes black staining of caries. Potassium iodide (KI) treatment with SDF may decrease or lessen the staining. However, the effectiveness of KI on staining has not been investigated. This study examined SDF/KI with various restorative materials, on carious and sound tooth structure. Methods: Ten groups of teeth were treated to evaluate the effect of KI and SDF treatment. Visual examination and color measurements were used to evaluate color changes among the groups. Results: All groups with KI treatment showed minimal to no staining after four weeks.
